“Deow” is now a well-known urban artist in Southland and beyond.  In January 2019 he revealed ‘Mia’ to much fanfare on the outside of the Kelvin Hotel in Invercargill.

Beverly collaborated with Deow during a 2011 visit to her studio. The aerosol artist seemed dynamic, robust and raw.  She found these qualities compelling in strong juxtaposition to her more contemplative personality.

She wanted to express the tension Deow spoke of as he crossed between street credibility and acceptance in the conventional art sphere.  The surfing tether alludes to his other passion, surfing.
