The Concept Behind ‘Tango and Twist’

‘Tango and Twist’ is part of  ‘Moving On‘, which I believe epitomises the confluence of dance and movement, through the fluidity of oil-based multimedia and Dutch gold leaf.

Deep black, red, and blue symbolise passion and intensity, while earthy green and gold helps give balance and harmony. This not only enhances the works but allows viewers to feel the rhythm and pulse of the dance.

Techniques and Mediums Used in ‘Moving On’

Layering is a significant technique in the ‘Moving On’ series. I built depth and dimension by successive applications of oil-based ink, oil stick and Caran D’Ache crayon, allowing each layer to set thoroughly before scraping the layer with my old palette knife to expose the prior layer. The texture achieved adds a tactile quality to the artworks.

The Role of Color and Light

Colour and light evokes an engaging visual experience in ‘Tango and Twist’.
