What I had to change on the 2nd day of my painting challenge

A great personal result! Yesterday’s challenge—painted, edited, posted!!

Being kind to myself, I discovered I needed to adjust my approach to painting. Usually I start by blocking in the darkest and the lightest values and build on that. There won’t be enough time for the thinner darker layers to set before applying more paint with painting daily.

I’d need to adjust my “dark to light” method. The first wet layers impact those that follow in a way I’m not used to. Fun stuff!

I continue the challenge inspired by our drive through the Danseys Pass’. I wanted to catch the beautiful mood of the passage through eastern Central Otago into South Canterbury near Waimate in the South Island of New Zealand.

The result from Day 2 is entitled “Journey Through Danseys Pass, St. Bathans II“. The painting, framed, is for sale. Free shipping in New Zealand. Priced in NZ dollars. Be sure to watch the time-lapse video below.

If you’d like, paint along with me and post an image of your own daily painting on my Facebook page, Beverly Claridge, Artist.

Be sure to add #beverlyclaridge in the comment with your image.
