I created four major shows and joined in many exhibitions after coming to New Zealand. I also blended a family, started art groups, remodelled houses, planned a wedding and welcomed grandkids. I even owned (and closed) a business.
I’ll share my secrets and help you find ways to get into the studio to create art you love!
More about me
I’m an American-born visual artist living at the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand for over 20 years.
I get to do life with my Kiwi husband, Bill, Bella the Bichon, Goaty the Goat, and Orange, our part-time cat, who is supposed to chase mice next door in the neighbour’s horse stable, but would rather sleep in our lounge at night.
Together, Bill and I raised a blended family of five offspring. We’re blessed with five grandkids, so far!
Is it ever too late?
Moving on from past choices is liberating. Taking daily incremental action nudges me closer to fulfilling my creative dreams.
Well-intentioned advice in my youth steered me away from my creative desires and into sensible careers.
Having children re-ignited my passion to create art. Coloured pencil portraits of my children birthed a fledgling portraiture business.
But then I had to pack up and return with my children to Kansas.
As a working solo-mum, I viewed each day as a chance to make a small step toward my creative aspirations.
Coming to New Zealand
“Sure, why not!”, clicking ‘ok’ to the man in New Zealand man wanting to “talk” to me on the new-fangled way to meet other singles in 2000; an online dating site.
“At the least, we could be penpals!”
Months later, after hours on the phone and daily emails flying back and forth, Bill and his son flew over to Kansas to meet me and my family and friends.
We were married by Judge Corrigan at the Sedgwick County courthouse a few days later, with family and friends present.
Selling or giving away most of our stuff, my children and I landed in New Zealand the first day of winter down under to join Bill and his family on a 22 year (and counting) adventure!
Blending our new family and creating art full-time was a dream come true! I discovered ways to overcome the life challenges along the way so I could create art that I love!
I'm grateful I've been able to create art around a rich and challenging family life. I'm particularly blessed our home is now restored and I'm back in the studio. When I'm not creating new abstracts or making videos to help others create art around busy lives, you might find me...

I finally finished “War and Peace” this past summer after the remodel. Now I’m reading “The Count of Monte Cristo”. I’ve got to catch up with Bill who is two Ken Follett novels ahead.
Caring for a Massive Plant Collection
My five tiny house plants collection, bought in 2019 after we closed our business, morphed into about 30…some rather large. (Three monstera live in my lounge. Help!!!)
Exercising and Eating Right
I’m committed to my new achievable exercise and eating regime. There’s a lot of living I still want to do, and I aim to be fit!
