The challenge of painting the Southland Skies

Painting the Southland skies is as challenging as they are amazing. Fantastic formations lure me steer my car roadside simply to enjoy the show. And take photos. I have hundreds, perhaps over a thousand sky photos. It was a natural choice to include my love for our skies in my month-long art challenge.

Southwesterly weather systems from the cold Southern Ocean and warmer Tasman Sea push rapidly over the South Island Alps creating striking displays across our province. The show continues daily with seldom a cloudless day.

The result from Day 11 is titled “Southland Skies-Over the Ascot Racecourse”. The painting is for sale.
