The challenge of painting the Southland Skies

Southland New Zealand skies are amazing! Southwesterly weather systems from the cold Southern Ocean and warmer Tasman Sea push rapidly over the South Island Alps creating striking displays across our province. The show continues daily with seldom a cloudless day.

Fantastic formations lure me many times to steer my car roadside simply to enjoy the show. And take photos. I have hundreds, perhaps over a thousand sky photos. It was a natural choice to include my love for our skies in my month-long art challenge.

The result from Day 11 is titled “Southland Skies-Over the Ascot Racecourse”. The painting is for sale.

I invite you to watch the time-lapse video below.

If you’d like, paint along with me and post an image of your own daily painting on my Facebook page, Beverly Claridge, Artist.

Be sure to add #beverlyclaridge in the comment with your image.
