Red Playground Category

Red Playground, is my purposefully optimistic and energetic collection of artwork that offers colourful exuberance to your spaces.

All but one of the works manifest triumphant over a gruelling beginning. Accordingly, I soaked, stained, and thoroughly mistreated watercolour paper. Thereby, resulting crunchy surfaces yielded unexplored opportunities to forge a new art direction.

Nonetheless, I postponed embarking on my fresh art direction when an emergency home repair erupted which, consequently, demanded my full attention for 10 months.

Afterwards, I gratefully returned to complete the Red Playground collection.

The beginning hand-drawn works were made with Inktense, pigment ink and coloured pencil. The next pieces were mono-printed with Inktense and a bit of oil-stick. Afterwards, works were made by mono-printing with oil-based printing ink.

“Play Ball”, the latest large oil on canvas, reinterprets the first, “Let’s Have A Ball”, as a way of returning full circle to oil painting.

Red Playground Series was the first works made during my challenge to make 52 abstracts in 52 weeks, and…have fun in the studio!
