Introducing ‘Ruckus’
‘Ruckus’ is part of my Hurly Burly’ series which is a visual expression of my attitude about continuing my abstract journey. ‘Ruckus’ is directly inspired by Rhema Meditation No. 1, which is sold. Nonetheless, You can also learn more about the making of this series by clicking here, and see Rhema Meditation No.1.
The work captures the essence of tumultuous energy and discord. The title itself, ‘Ruckus,’ alludes to a cacophony of sounds and movements by painting a picture of frenetic motion, which is an apt description of the my past few years. Indeed, it alludes to the very process of making this collection. One challenge creating ‘Ruckus’ was balancing the chaotic elements with a sense of cohesion. Breakthrough came through exploring contrasts—juxtaposing light and dark, calm and fury, order and disorder.
The ‘Hurly Burly’ Abstract Series
‘Hurly Burly’, based on my 2018 ‘Rhema Meditation‘ abstract series, marks a significant shift in thematic focus and artistic approach. Consequently, confidence and vigour emanate from the work showing my 0ptimistic embrace of life’s hurdles. Furthermore, it is a celebration of resilience and discovering beauty amidst disorder. Each piece serves as a testament to the metamorphosis of my abstract practice. I look forward to showing you future works influenced by ‘Hurly Burly’.
Materials and Techniques Used in ‘Ruckus’
‘Ruckus’, and the entire ‘Hurly Burly’ collection evidences unconventional use of materials and techniques. Oil-based print ink, crayon, and oil stick produces intense colour saturation and intricate layering is achieved by scraping away layers. This is pivotal in conveying the dynamic and tumultuous nature of the series. Liquid metal leaf introduces a reflective quality and complexity and depth, perhaps representing interplay between chaos and order.
