The surprise drive from Riverton to the Oreti Beach.

Today’s challenge painting is inspired by a journey to Oreti to watch the sun setting over Riverton Aparima way from the northern part of Oreti Beach in Invercargill, Southland, New Zealand.

Not long after I photographed this image, we finally made the drive all the way by driving on the beach from Aparima to Oreti Beach. What a magical journey. Warned that we could get stuck fording the Waimatuku Stream emptying into the Foveaux Strait, we opted to make the journey at low tide in our new-to-us Santa Fe four wheel drive vehicle. AS A BONUS BELOW is a link to a 7 minute video of that. It is exclusive to those who read this blog.

The drive to Riverton usually takes 30 minutes by driving north on State 6 and turning left at State 99 to the sleepy coastal town.

The result from Day 15 is titled “Southland Skies – Oreti Beach Looking Over to Riverton.” The painting is for sale.

I invite you to watch the time-lapse video below.
