About  ‘Leap and Bound’ from the ‘Moving On’ Collection

It’s time to embrace new beginnings with  ‘Leap and Bound’, which is directly influenced by my earlier work, ‘Bounce and Hop‘. The ‘Moving On‘ collection serves as a display of the resilience and adaptability inherent in the human spirit.

Materials and Techniques Used

‘Leap and Bound’ was created using oil-based printing ink, providing a rich, dense pigment.  Additionally, the slow-drying nature of oil-based ink permits extended manipulation, offering ample time to refine details and create intricate layers.

I used oil sticks to add bold, gestural marks that imbue the artwork with a sense of immediacy and energy.  I love the vivid colour and creamy texture of Caran d’Ache crayons; they allowed for finer details and subtle mark making. The interplay between the dense oil-based ink and the lighter crayon marks creates a captivating visual tapestry.

As a final touch, I stretched the artwork onto a canvas frame, elevating it from a flat artwork to a dynamic, three-dimensional entity.

Influence of ‘Bounce and Hop’

‘Leap and Bound’ draws significant influence from its predecessor, ‘Bounce and Hope’. Altering the orientation between the two works fundamentally shifts the perspective, creating a fresh interpretation. In ‘Leap and Bound’, the vertical orientation suggests an upward struggle and resilience, encapsulating a sense of aspiration and perseverance. In essence, ‘Leap and Bound’ not only pays homage to ‘Bounce and Hope’ but also expands upon its foundation.  I sought to create a work  that explored movement and transformation in an innovative and compelling way.
