The beginning of Wabi Sabi

The Wabi Sabi collection arose from a period of restlessness alongside an awareness of impending change. In longing to return to my studio part-time, and, as a way to relax from running my business, in the evenings I  layered Inktense and masking fluid repetitiously on small cards made of Fabriano paper. Outlining real and imagined shapes with pigment ink proved satisfying.

Originally named ‘Minutiae’, I changed the name  because I filled rips, from removing the masking fluid, with metallic gold paint. I like the idea of celebrating the imperfect.

Other derived works

Wabi Sabi served as inspiration for my later series, ‘Moving On’.  You can see that series by clicking here.

‘Frolic and Romp’ from that series was directly derived from Wabi Sabi No. 7 and can be seen by clicking here.
