Autumnal Skies Outside My Studio

The Thread That Connects: From Wabi Sabi to Moving On | In The Pink to Pink Chatter

threads that connect

Delighting in the incredible southern New Zealand autumnal cloud show outside my lounge window gives me pause to reflect quietly upon the thread that connects through out my collections of work.

It’s been deeply gratifying to see the Moving On pieces finally living in real-life settings, perched on my sofa, catching the changeable light reaching through my window. The clean white frames let the joyful marks and flowing colours breathe with a lighter, more resolved energy.  They are now wrapped and tucked away ready to find their way into art-lovers’ homes after my updated website goes live, hopefully next week.  (Have you joined my email list below to be notified when it goes live!)

Deep roots, deep words

However, this collection didn’t appear out of nowhere. Its roots reach back to my very first abstract series, Wabi Sabi, which I began in 2018 while we were still running our business. Likewise, in its own roundabout and long journey, Pink Chatter grew from the earlier In The Pink series. My dear friend and mentor, the late Allie Eagle, reminded me, in one of our last gatherings up in Nelson, of the importance of making sure older works had a say in the new ones so that a continuous story could develop. That advice has stayed with me deeply.

Pink Chatter and Moving On Threads

Pink Chatter was my bright, conversational response during a very difficult and prolonged season — a way of persisting and finding joy in creating small marks in lively colour.

Moving On feels like the next chapter: stepping forward with lightness and hope after the challenges of closing our business and rebuilding our home.

These aren’t just colourful abstracts. They carry the thread of resilience, rebuilding, and the deliberate choice to keep painting with optimism. I believe that connectedness matters — it turns individual paintings into part of a longer, meaningful journey.

The finished framing of Moving On brings such a sense of continuity and quiet hope. I look forward to the works finding their way into their new homes and becoming part of every person’s own story.

What do you think?

I’d love to hear from you.  Has a piece of art ever felt like part of your longer personal journey? Or which of these collections speaks to you more right now?

With joy and gratitude,

Beverly Claridge
