Learning impasto painting

Learning impasto painting for these daily paintings, rather than using my normal method of applying increasingly thicker paint over previous thin layers, was helped build confidence.

The early dark wet layers affected subsequent ones and made a fun challenge. The interplay between the dark and light pigments was mostly satisfying.

Today’s work was inspired by the Kyeburn Diggings in the Danseys Pass. On Day 8 I employed an approach closer to my usual way painting.  I usally block in the darkest values, then the lightest one. Then middle values, followed by warmer and darker tones up close. Cooler, lighter, in the distance.

The result from Day 8 is entitled “Journey Through the Danseys Pass Kyeburn Diggings VI“.
