Warm and cool contrast on Day 3

Warm and cool contrast helps give life to a painting especially if the sun is overhead. Noon time light is cool in tone and shadows warm.

Completing this work took much longer than expected. No video narration. Just get her edited and posted. I concentrated on portraying the warm tones of the afternoon sun, and the cool of the shadow.

The Vulcan Hotel St bathans

The Vulcan Hotel at St. Bathans is a beloved landmark– a remnant from old mining days. Usually we’d stop in for a cuppa(cup of coffee or tea in New Zealand vernacular).  However, a lockdown threat loomed so we took photos and moved on.

Six weeks of lockdown saw the Vulcan Hotel close. That was unfortunate because the local hotel, or pub, is the hub and heart beat in remote rural New Zealand communities. I read it reopened later in 2020.  I hope to get that cuppa before too long.

The result from Day 3 is entitled “Journey Through Danseys Pass, Vulcan Hotel in St. Bathans“.
